New fish finder for boat

Jack Peterson

Question

I'm looking into getting a new fish/depth finder for my 14.5 foot Northwood boat. I'll also be adding a bow mount trolling motor, and converting my vexilar for open water. I want a fish finder that's around $300-400 bucks, is reliable, and shows my boat speed.

Is there anything in that price range that shows speed via gps?

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I just ordered a Humminbird 778c for 480.00 on the internet. All I want it to read the depth because I have a $1000. gps from lowerance because i can't get it to read depths. After 4 transducers, hard and soft reset, and updateing software, not to mention hours on the phone I am done with lowerance time to cut the losses.

Ed is right about that humminbird 788 sonar GPS combo, was $650 or $700(?) now its running $500. Might even get cheaper over time or at shows.

Humminbird makes the 385ci, which is a color gps/fishfinder combo with a 3.5" screen for $400 dollars but like stated another $100 will get you a 5" screen and better resolution.

Why do you want boat speed? You could probably pick up an old handheld gps for cheap that will give you speed if that is all your concerned about. Take the money you save over buying a Fishfinder/gps combo and buy your self a nice fishfinder.
