If it has "click style" spring adjusters there should be a tool in the kit, if not it would be a good idea to have the right tool to avoid chewing them (and your knuckles) up. If it has the threaded rings you can usually do it with your hands.

Now that you mention it it must be that big cresent-wrench in the tool kit in the back seat, I think it's brass in color I'll check when I get home.
