RUNnGUN
Hey guys-My "home" lake is very stained, and often times by mid-late July the algae bloom is so bad you can't see a lure 6 inches down. I have always fished this lake very shallow (<10 ft.) with blades and topwater. I have had very good success at times, but overall inconsistent results. There is a good population of fish present, so I know they are there. I was wondering if anyone has had much success fishing deep weeds (10-15 ft.) or suspended fish in very stained water like this. Also, this lake has a great crappie and walleye/perch population which I'm sure the muskies are following.
Nick Kuhn
All I fish is stained water for the most part. For the most part, fish are tough to see. They'll either hit, boil the surface, or you'll never know they are there. Fish will certainly be on deep weed edges. Use baits that get close to fish. 50inchpig
try not to let the fact that you can't see much bother you and fish it like a clear water lake. definitely hit deeper weeds. troll some cranks along the deep edge and beyond if nothing else. i know this is a good technique on one particular stained water lake in the metro. hunter991
Fishing a stained lake is a good thing but u must always remember to figure 8 on every cast. I stick with bring colors, rattlers etc and also use white bulldogs.
