Carsella or Yetti house?

FWR

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Does anybody have an email address or phone number for Don Carsella? I would like to contact him to price out a custom fish house. Is he a pretty easy guy to deal with?

Does anybody on this forum own a Yetti house? I am also looking at those too. How is the quality of the house?

Send me some pics of your Yetti if you can.

Thank you

Hey guys,

I'd like to introduce myself here as I am a new sponsor to the site and an authorized Yetti dealer. If you guys have any questions about the Yetti House I know it quite well! I have also finished a handful of them and would happy to be a resource (for whatever it's worth;)) for anyone who has questions! If you are looking for a custom house and want to do some of the work, the Yetti is unbeatable. They have done all the hard work for you creating a very well built, great looking exterior.

Thanks

Casey

I have a Carsella house. Its a 8x16 with a 3ft Vnose. Overall i really like the house. its plenty warm and has alot of nice options. I have had a couple of out of town experiences on it with no problems. But i would like to make a few things for anyone to point out. he lives up by northome mn about 15-20min from red lake. I would absolutely recommend making a few trips to check out your house during the build. I noticed that with mine, i was given a deadline for when it was going to be done on a few different occasions and it was pushed back. I feel that Don may have been a little over his head with work and rushed through some of the craftsmanship regarding my house. Like i said before, i love my house but some of the small detail stuff sort of bothers me. ie...some of the trim work has larger gaps, the tin on the outside of the house on one side appears to be bowed. and some of the diamond plate edging isnt aligned. most of this stuff the avg person wouldnt notice but i did. I feel that don is a honest guy and made some mistakes but was a man of his word and compensated me for the hole in the rubber roof and the silicone that hadnt dried that caused a leak. since then i have repaired the roof and the silicone work but don compensated me for that. for the dollar amount you spend you get a great deal compared to your more spendy name brand fish houses. i just strongly recommend that everything is exactly how you want it before you take it home. once again i am not trying to bad mouth anyone just want everyone to be aware of whats out there. i would still recommend a Carsella shack to anyone

The only concern I have with an Alum. frame is corrosion and possibly having the welds break after taking a ride on the rough lake.

Aluminum should provide far better corrosion resistance than steel in a fish house frame. It does oxidize some but once a layer has formed it actually creates a barrier to prevent further oxidization.

As far as welds breaking, yes generally aluminum welds are not as strong as steel, but with proper engineering and testing that the Yetti has been through, it will handle as much as any other wheel house out there, or more.

Let me know if I can help to reduce any other concerns you may have about an Aluminum House.

Ironically, Ive been looking pretty closely at the yetti houses...This thread came at a good time.. and really like the idea of a lighter frame, and the options to finish it out yourself the way you would like...The problem is Im not much of a handy man when it comes to finish work and would like too probably have some one finish it for me..Yetti Master, is there anyway you could send or post pics of some of the houses finished? I can't find any pics of any finished? Just so I can get an idea of some of the options/styles a dealer would do.

Thanks

Here are a few pics of my yetti and I am happy that I chose it as I pull it with a jeep grand cherokee with a v6 and it is very light. I am working on a second removable bunk in the back. I purchased the 6.5x12 and has two windows double back door and the side door. I can fish 4 comfortably.

My grandpa purchased a Carsella house this year. The guy told him he could pick it up on(don't know the date). He drove from New Brighton to Northhome, the house wasn't finished! The guy told him he'd throw in some "goodies". A couple rattle wheels, are you kidding me... That's eight hours of wasted driving and alot of gas burnt!

the funny thing is that carsella throws in those goodies no matter what. when i purchased the house from him, he told me in the beginning (before the build took place) that i would receive rattle reels and pan fish rods with some glow sleeves as free-bees for purchasing the house. sounds like your grandpa got hosed.

well aparently Im being added to the carsella list. Had a completion date of apr 1 for my house and planing a last trip up there was going to use the house. I called and called to no answer and finally sent an email saying I would be there to get my house the next day. within a half hr i had an email back saying it wasnt done, don was sick, and he thought I ad said the 15th. Well ok mistakes happen. But they said we will deliver to you and they would have it done in a wk (apr 8) that went by and I didnt hear anything back. I started calling all 3 numbers I have for them on the 14th and sent a couple emails. A week later and no answer not even a call back! My deposit.......$5000! Seriously Im getting a bit concerned. whats next? Sheriff, better buisiness bureau, road trip the 4 hrs and waste some gas??????? very bad buisiness. Aleast have the decency to reurn a phone call and sy its not done.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
