Strikemaster Electralazer

Recommended Posts

I wanted to let everyone who is thinking about buying a new auger know that I just bought the new "Electra Lazer" from strike master. This auger is great- its a little bit slower cutting than a gas auger, but not a big deal, maybe takes 1 1/2 times a long. I put about 20 holes through about 2 feet of ice yesterday on one charge. It also uses the same 12v battery as a vexilar or camera, so if you run low you can always swap. If you run and gun and drill a ton of holes, this might not be the best buy, but if you are planning on staying somewhere for a while or have a permanent this would be the way to go. The one thing I don't like is that it has a button to depress instead of a lever, but it's not that big of a deal. After owning a gas auger for a number of years, it's pretty awesome to be able to just flip a switch and drill. It also has an external power cord that you can hook up to your vehicle/ATV/Snowmobile if your run out of juice. I would definitely reccomend *****

I've had mine for about 3 years now. At first I was in love, but I'm lossing interest in it. You have to replace the battery ever other year in order to maintain drilling 20 holes. My battery can only get 5-6 in 18" now. You also have to pull your battery out and charge it if you don't have a heated gargae or heated area to store your battery (it really takes a toll to charge it when its cold). Buying as new battery every other year really doesn't off set the gas prices to me. I love the no fumes and easy start but thats about it. Also, swaping out batteries seems to be a pain also (my two screws on top NEVER on screw right). The external power cables are a good idea in a pinch but sucks otherwise.

If they had the propane auger when I bought mine, I'd totally have gone that route. WAY WAY better IMO.

In summary...

-20 holes only when battery is in tip-top performance.

-20 holes in a day is not that much. You may think its plenty for you now, but when it changes, your stuck with it (like I am now).

-replacing batteries is not cheaper then using gas

-VERY easy to start

-No Fumes is awesome

-No mix and very little maintenance (other then proper battery maintenance)

-there are better augers out there for no fumes if thats what you want (Propane)

-SM is a great company to deal with.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
