Sillosocks Super Cheap!!!

Recommended Posts

Anyone that ordered sillosocks from Gander Mountain on sale did you get them? Gander just called and said sillosocks would not fulfill the order because gander sold them below their minimum advertised price. That sounds like [PoorWordUsage] on sillosocks side. Gander would be the one losing money selling them at their dealer price not sillosocks so why not just send them out and be over with gander but no sillosocks is gonna screw the customer over by not sending them out. They were on sale on a couple other websites but now it is too late the sales are over so I am going to have to purchase them at full price which sucks. Whatever just venting.

The way I read it is that the $20/doz is for unpainted bags without the supports. Sounds like a steal until you realize the supports are more $ than the bags. Guessing the supports are critical to function of the decoys. Also guessing that Joe Baggadonuts ain't gonna be able duplicate the supports in his garage with a roll of duct tape, a tube of caulk and a really big hammer.

Lot's of options just have to weight out costs vs time and energy.

Econos usually include all parts including the liner bag. Just have to assemble and paint.

Sillosocks sell the liner bags as a separate part (40 cents each). They also sell the liner bag, head, and rod stake as a conversion kit if you want to convert say some old northwinds.

For the total do it your selfer ===>>>>>

Metal rods can be fabbed with rolled wire stock.

The heads are just coroplast sheet stock. Can cut your own from elections signs, etc... Sharp edges, be careful.

Some people buy laboratory arm guards made of tyvec. Sew one side closed. Bam a windsock.

If you look around the net there are instructions on painting blues and juvie snows !!

Also patents do not protect the owner from the do it yourselfer copying them as long as you do not sell them !!

I found wooden dowls 1/4" 100qty.for $17. Put the sock on & hope it's not calm. Or make your own heads.

the liner bags work with dowels too. At 40 cents each.

Bag, liner, wood dowel = $1 each total. Not bad. Black kraylon paint optional for wings.

I just bought 200 sleeves for $61.00 after shipping.

Just finished closing one end on them all.

Time to paint and put on dowel.

For a support I am going to cut 14" lengths of steel strapping and drill a hole to slide onto the dowel. (used for strapping pallets)

I will use gromets to hold support in place.

Should work out pretty slick.

Figured it would be an easy way to add a couple hundred more decoys to the spread for cheap.

Did you sew in some plastic banding around the inside of the front opening of the sock? If you go with metal banding for the support, make sure and do something about the end of the band so it's not poking through and tearing up the bag.

I am hoping that the opening where there wind would blow in will be open enough.

On the supports I curled the one end and wrapped it with duct tape to avoid sharp edges.

I will post pic when I have a finished proto.

good call...even large plastic strapping when used for supports will eat through a bag after a few windy hunts if its not taped up or protected somehow.

Just ordered in parts for a caller. Lucky to have a bil that makes his living wiring electronics so should turn out to be sharp, convenient rig. Should start seeing some reports from south in a couple of weeks.
