captainshane
I am in the process of putting together a pulk sled for pulling gear while I am snowshoeing. Was looking for some ideas and/or pics. I would prefer to use poles behind me because the areas I will be using it are hilly. I also use ski poles so holding on to a rope isn't an option. Thanks ahead time,Shane
Duffman
As you can see, these pulk pulling poles are nearing the end-of-use days. When built right, they should last a while (unless you use them to haul a portable by snowmobile). But you should expect failure at some point (bring rope just in case), hearing "equipment failure!" echoing down the trail can be humorus as long as it's not your equipment. I built mine by inserting a wooden dowel in an aluminum pole, hot gluing it and pinning in a little nail from the side of the pipe to keep the dowel from pulling out. Screwed in a eyebolt and that was about it. The usual e-failure is the wood will eventually rot...losing the eyebolt, or the dowel itself will pull out. I'm a toboggan guy these days, all rope and downhills are always an adventure.
captainshane
Thanks Duffman. I am going to try using 3/4" sch 80 pvc amd have rope going through the pipe tied to carabiners. I will post some pics when I am finished. Thanks again,Shane
Duffman
Just remember plastic and cold don't mix that well. My design was over 20 yrs old, I've seen designs where guys use solid fiberglass poles these days.
