I'm just a hole driller and contestant for this event...just wanted to promote it. Great event. My kid out fished me last year and came in second in the youth division, lots of bragging already started in our house...we are counting down the days!!

I too am counting down the days till February 27th when it's over and I can relax again, Good to hear you guys are coming, remember you can pre register on line and save a little cash! Last year a guy here on FM won the remington 870 in the pre-registration drawing.

Northland Tackle’s Prize Patrol will be at this year’s 7th annual Bass Lake Ice Fishing Contest, they will be patrolling the site and awarding cash and prizes to the contestants they find fishing with Northland Tackle. Hope to see you there!

Looked at the ramp today, looked pretty rough. Is the contest still on? I'm hopin for a week of cold weather to heal it up. I'll walk on if that's what it takes.

The 2011 Bass Lake Ice Fishing Contest will be held as scheduled, the lake has over twenty inches of clear safe ice. However, the combination of unseasonably warm weather and excessive salt run-off from the parking area has caused the ice at the only public landing on the lake to deteriorate to the point where the DNR has closed the landing to vehicular traffic. The SYAA Board has in place contingency plans that will be put in effect for this year’s contest. All vehicles will be parked at the Somerset Schools Complex and shuttle buses will be used to transport participants the short 3 mile drive to the contest site. Handicapped parking with permits will be made available at the landing with transportation to the site upon request. The grand prize for this year’s contest is a new Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 pickup truck the total prize package to be given away is worth more than $50,000. What time is the shuttle going start? If I come out to drill holes, can people still drive out to the landing to drop off equipment, kids, etc. What about that road along the N.E corner can we park in the ditch there. Is there a chance the landing will be opened back up by sat?

Something tells me it's not gonna reopen. Right now were asking volunteers to carpool from the school. Shuttles for contestants will start at 8 and the first shuttle for volunteers leaves at 6:15. Were trying to get parking on one side of 153rd but thats up to the county check the HSOforum on Friday and I'll post all the info. by then

The 2011 7th annual Bass Lake Ice Fishing Contest is now one for the history books. The day was quite chilly for the end of February with a high of just 8 degrees and continuous snow, but not chilly enough to stop the 1400 anglers who all had their eyes on the grand prize, the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Pick up. As is always the case when a high pressure ridge brings in a drastic cold front the ice fishing proved challenging, at 3:00 when the final horn sounded only 70 fish had been registered in the adult division and the big ones eluded all. The largest fish of the day was a mere .64 pound perch caught by William Booth of Rochester, MN yet it was big enough to win him the truck! For the rest of his life MR. Booth will have a fish tale that few people will ever believe. The unusual challenges of this year’s contest were numerous starting with the closing of the lakes only public landing by the Wisconsin DNR which resulted in all contestants having to park offsite and be shuttled to the lake. Upon inspection on Friday morning it was revealed that at 2” the ice at the landing was still unsafe for the contestants to traverse so a 30’ wooden bridge was designed and built in place over the thin ice. Contestants came from throughout the Midwest but also from places as far away as New Mexico, Saudi Arabia and even New Zealand. All in all it was another great contest the brats were hot, the beer was cold, and the prizes were many. Had an excellent time again even though I froze my arse off!!! We must have chose the wrong side of the area to fish this year as only 5 fish in our area was caught. Only 2 of the 5 Team Fishinlocal caught a fish and I was one of them that was skunked. Those 2 got a 870 and a Marcum. Only seen 1 on the Vex that only wanted to look and not bite. Oh well as they say wait til next year!!! God I sound like a Cubs or Vikes Fan (I am a Bears Fan)!!
