What is different in the 2011 788ci HD units vs the 2010 788ci model? What does the HD actually do?

What about the models with down imaging? What's that do?

There isn't much difference, a little bit brighter screen and I think better networking options. The DI model is the same except with down imaging. I think the transducer is also a little different to enable it. As far as what it does it's supposed to create something that looks more like an ultrasound image than a sonar return. It'll pick up bottom changes and bottom hugging fish better than 2d sonar as well.

They are supposed to have a better processor to work with map cards and ethernet connections better.
