best way to go make your own! All bought rigs i've seen only run the leader through crimps twice. but on my quick stikes I run the leader through the crimp three times, twice will make the loop on end and then third time is the tag end of leader folded back and tucked into the crimp. have not had one fail yet. 30lb. coated leader by berkley. After a week on LOW coating is gone and wire is bent and frayed, but no problem with crimps!

hate to say it but tackle failure is always over the shoulder. dosent matter if you buy the most expensive equipment, its just a matter of time. i use florocarben leaders for musky fishing and havnt been failed by the crimps on the leader but reels, rods, line, moters, ext. as for quick strike rigs ive used many, never been failed by a crimp yet.

I always would write the company when their product isn't meeting the stated needs. I have had really good luck in writing companies and I am now in current discussion with a company about a faulty part they put in that ended up costing me over $3,000. Every company should back up their products and should take ownership if something goes wrong. Good luck with the e-mail and I hope they will back up their product and make their customer happy.

Same thing happened to me last year with a crimp failing just as I got a larger northern's head up the hole. I don't remember the brand right now, but I had bought three of them and the other two were fine. I did check the crimps before I used them, though.

Hey Stealth,

What a bummer! Anyway you slice it loosing a fish of a lifetime always sucks and even more when you have a piece of equipment fail.

We at Bigtooth Tackle know that things like this happen but fortunately it hasn't been a problem for us. Just like you, Josh and I are just guys who love to catch fish and we know the pain you are feeling by watching a monster fish swim away before you can get your hands on her.

Since we know how you feel we would like to ease your pain by sending you one of our new Bigtooth Tackle Fluoro-Carbon HD "Natural" Rigs. These bad boys are tough!

Send us an email at [email protected]

Also thanks guys for all the awesome comments, there is nothing that makes us happier, then to hear you guys are having success with our Quick Strike Rigs. That's what this is suppose to be about, right?

Good Luck Fishing!

Jeff and Josh

Bigtooth,

Great response to your product not meeting expectations of your customers. I will be looking for your products and will purchase some. I love it when companies take care of their customers when something doesn't work like it should. We all work very hard for our money and we should have confidence in the products that we spend that money on.

Thanks Bassman! I thought this might happen but it actually wasn't our product that failed. We have a lot of guys on this forum that use Bigtooth Tackle and I came across this post. I was bummed to see that Stealth had lost a monster (using another companies product) and thought we could try and help ease that pain of loosing a big fish.

Just a friendly gesture from one fisherman to the next!!!

I've never been too picky buying my QS rigs, but I can tell you after reading this thread mine will be a Bigtooth product. Thank you very much for your participation and dedication to the consumers!!

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
