F 150 cooling system

Recommended Posts

I was low on antifreeze and so I put some in the surge tank and drained the system down until the tank was empty. Filled it again and now it was down about another quart. I just put more in the surge tank and it is bubbling and taking more into the radiator while the engine is off and cold. There are no leaks and so I am wondering what's going on. There should be enough antifreeze into the system but I can't really tell because the tank is full of 100% antifreeze. What's going on?

Thanks for your time.

Tom

Check your, oil might be going there, if your exhaust is white - steam - you may have a head gasket out or cracked block or head. Definetly not something to ignore if you are going through that much coolant. Maybe something as simple as a bad hose or loose clamp. Take it to a good mechanic if unsure.

First of all, when you fill it you will need to get it hot so that the T stat opens. maybe drive it a little and then check it to make sure the bottle is full. Let it cool off and check the level again. Now you are starting fresh and can actually see how much you are using. What year and engine do you have?

2002 with a 5.4 I doubt it's going into the engine - if it is I'm going to burn the truck up rather than deal with that foolishness. Went through it with one of my kids and it was an expensive PITA. The tank was down a quart and it didn't start burping until I added more antifreeze.
