How much lead core will fit on a Sealine 27?

I got another Diawa Sealine 27 and am looking to spool it up with leadcore. Will 4 or 5 colors of 18lb fit on this, or what would be recommended? I don't see myself fishing much over 35 ft.....so I figured I could get away with the 27 vs the 47. Main use would be on Mille Lacs. Anyone have any pointers on spooling it up or how much backer I could get on with 4 or 5 colors?

How deep would 4 colors of 18lb get me with an SR5 at 2mph....roughly? I know 4 colors should get down roughly 20 ft at 2mph, I assume the lure running depth is then added on to the 20 ft, so an SR5 should run around 30-34'?

A 27 will get you 5 full colors of 18 pound test lead - with little backing and a 30 ft. leader. With an SR5 and 5 colors out, you will be able to hit bottom at 26-30+/- FOW at 2 MPH, but you will not have much left on the spool (...if you get snagged a 2 MPH!!) so be careful.

I've been using Accudepth 47's for most of my lead-line setups. I have a lot of Sealine reels too, but I tend to use the cheaper reels for lead. It's like dragging in an anchor anyhow, so I believe in spending the cash on a better rod than the reel for this set-up. I have Accudepth 27's running lead on my 5 ft. shorty rods. I use 47's on my 8'6" lead rods. On the river, I only use a 6 foot leader though too. Anywhere else, I use 30-50 feet. It does make a difference, so make sure you have enough reel spool for the line quantity that you'll need. ...Seems to work fine by me and I troll in the river a lot.

I also prefer the 47's. I spool them with 10 colors just to keep them all the same. I would not put more than 4 colors on a 27 to leave some room for backing. My gues is a # 5 ShadRap will go about 20-25 feet @ 2 mph. If you go any faster you will loose depth.

Typically, I troll about 2.2 mph with a 6' leader of 20 lb Powerpro in 20 FOW and have out anywhere from 125-140 feet of line out. 135' seem to be key on some of my favorite spots.

Thanks guys, I guess I will probably return this reel and step up to the 47 for my lead core setup. I would rather have some extra backing in case of a snag, and have the extra weight to get down deeper if I find the need to.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
