Chevy brakes

Recommended Posts

I heard a squeek in my front brakes yesterday and then a big thunk. I went to a buddy of mines today who has a repair shop and boy what a mess.

He said the inside brake pad was gone and showed me how the one piston had broke and then busted the brake pad and trashed the rotor.

Ended up with new pads, rotor and a caliper. The outside brake pad was still 75% good.

Not a cheap day at the repair shop.

Jer or Scott, ever here of the piston for the caliper breaking? New one on me.

I have seen it many times. Even where the rotors are worn past the cooling fins on the one side, usually the braking surface of the rotor will break off of the wheel portion of the rotor, and that wheel wont stop, thats usually when the customer comes in and says, I just heard it start squeaking/grinding last week. Although, it has obviously been grinding for 10,000 miles. I would talk to the place that does your oil changes, this should have easily been noticed and prevented on a routine oil change.

The brake pad on the outside was stil at about 75% new. I do not know how the inside one could have been worn out but I guess it could have been. The whole rotor was also intact but the one piston was not looking good on the caliper.
