More new Garmin GPS software Updates:

For the Oregon owners, remember there are two different versions. One is for the x50 series (Beta 4.31) and the other is for the x00 series (Beta 4.11). Don't mix these up as it could render the GPS useless and you may have to send the unit back to Garmin.

Software updates, enhanced features to work with mapping and accuracy, minor bug fix's.

FYI: When you set up a Garmin user account, and register your Garmin product, and use the handy Garmin WebUpdater. It will inform you of updates for your unit by e-mail. And then only if the update is applicable to your specific registered unit. So that eliminates the concerns of loading the incorrect version as it also leads you to the proper download and link from your Garmin Updater Program. Do not install any updates not intended for your unit, even if it lets you, and that is unlikely, it would do you little good. Any questions on updates or software functionality, shot Garmin CS a e-mail, they generally promptly respond to all inquires.

The Webupdater does not do anything for the beta firmware. It only works on 'released' firmware. You still have to pick the correct version of beta firmware for you specific product.

pulleye16, your GPS unit is fine without these updates. For most people I would suggest doing what Ed says and only update the unit though the Webupdater to insure that you are getting the correct version of firmware and a thoroughly tested version of firmware. With Garmin beta firmware always ends with a digit other than 0 while 'released' firmware will always have a 0 at the end. For example the firmware stated above is beta because it is 4.11 for the Oregon x00 units and that is only available though a download of a .zip file. The next 'released' version will be 4.20 and that will be available though the Webupdater.
