Western la Croix: Which Ontario zone?

Recommended Posts

Hey all:

I just checked the Ontario MNR Web site and looked at the zone maps, and it looks like the Canadian side of Lac la Croix opens for lakers on Jan. 1. It looks like the extreme SE edge of zone 5, and outside the Quetico. Is it zone 5? And non-Quetico?

Also, can I bring in deadbait for the tip-up?

Only 13 days! Thanks!

The last few years I've crossed the border with frozen ciscoes and herring a few times and it has been no problem at all. I think smelt are a no-no, though. I'm not sure what the laws are now but the worst that could happen is they take them away from you before crossing. Or will you be crossing with an RABC?

I don't know anything about the zones so I can't help you there.

Good luck! I'm headed up the 5th through the 9th and can hardly wait! Finished modifying my rodholders for the snowmobile last night. Now I'm all set to go!

Hey Steve - It is in zone 5 and opens Jan 1. It falls under the border water regs. Daily posession 1 trout per day no size limit for non residents, total posession 2 trout

dead bait for tip ups is allowed, just no smelt or game fish. Hope this helps. If you have more questions, let me know or you can call the Fort Frances MNR at 807-274-5337. Hold onto your rod tight!
