Lakemaster Chip Question

npsmokefan

Question

If I have a Lowrance Elite 5 with GPS on my boat and I have a Garmin Oregon 450T handheld GPS. Can I use the same Lakemaster chip for both? I was told when I bought the Garmin it would not be an issue, both should except same chip. After reading into it looks like I would need to buy a Lakemaster Garmin version chip. Is there a way around this without having to buy chips of the same thing for each GPS? If not, does anyone have any good recomendations of newer versions of Lowrance handheld GPS? Have not seen many good reviews. My last handheld I am replacing was a Lowrance H20.

You were told wrong. As stated, you cannot swap the same chip into diferent branded equipment. You could get a Lowrance GPS, but I have not heard many good reviews on the new line. The Garmin 450T is an awesome unit, though, and a LM chip will make it all the better.

You could always use the Elite 5 as a nav on your 4 wheeler or in your truck if you hooked up a 12 volt source/battery to it. You'd have a huge screen and have all of the nav features available to you that you had all summer!
