Gps info wanted

Question

OK I currently have 2 Handheld gps units and would like to have just one unit. I have an H20c with a lakemaster chip. Great for ice and open water fishing but struggles to find satelites in the deep woods. I also have a garmin etrex that works good in the deep woods but too small of a screen for me to use for fishing. If i were to sell both units what would be a good gps unit that would work good for both hunting and fishing. I currently have a mntrax micro sd card and the lakemaster sd card.

Garmin GPSMap76 will give you the best of both worlds. Larger screen than the Etrex with better satellite receiver and can be used with mapping software. You could also check out Garmin's 3-D versions like the Oregon or Colorado. I don't know too much about them though.

The only problem you will have by using a Garmin for your Lakemaster is that the version you have now for your H20 is not compatible with a Garmin so you might as well sell it with the H20. That should bring a higher resale value though.

I bought a 60csx last spring, I used it mostly in the boat last summer on Lake of the Woods, so far so good, I'm happy with it, very fast to aquire signal. The 60csx is held in high regards as a very solid GPS with a very accurate antenna.

The transflective screen is pretty neat, the more sunlight you put on it them more readable the screen gets.

One thing the 60csx won't do is the satellite imagery like the Dakota, Oregon, 78's and 62's will do. You can do a side by side comparison on Garmin's site of these GPS's.

I don't have a Dakota 20, so I couldn't tell you much about that one other than it is a touchscreen unit. The 60csx has a slightly larger screen than the Dakota.

One negative about the GPSMap60. A friend of mine tried one and ended up selling it and upgrading to the GPSMap76. The reason was the location of the buttons. With bare hands it wasn't as much a problem but with mittens or gloves on it was. The GPSMap60 navigation buttons are located near the bottom of the unit. To operate them while holding the GPS one-handed with mittens or gloves means you have to hold it too gingerly and there a good potential to drop it. Hard to explain but you end up holding it between a couple fingers while operating the buttons. The GPSMap76 has the buttons located near the top and so you are able to cradle it in your palm and still operate the buttons one-handed.

I hope I described this well enough.

I think the button placement is a personal preference thing, a buddy of mine has the 76 and doesn't like where the buttons are located on his either, guess a person just has to try it out and see what you prefer.
