Cabela's Prodigy Casting reel...good or bad?

I've always used only spinning gear, and want to venture out to the world of casting setups. I don't want to break the bank. I'm looking for a servicable casting reel at a reasonable price....does anyone have any experience wth the Cabela's Prodigy? it is on sale right now...and thinking of pulling the trigger, just wondering if there may be a better option out there at the same price point $60-$75. Thanks

I haven't used one but I think they have fairly good reviews. I bought one of the rods on sale last spring and still think it was a value after one season's use.

I paired the rod with a accurist that I bought for $70. It is the cheapest reel I've used that I really like.

I have some Prodigy spinning reels and 1 baitcasting reel and I feel that for the money (I got them on sale for %50 I think) that they are a heck of a deal at that price. At full price there are other lots of other options to consider.

The baitcaster is on sale for $59.99 i think....original price marked was $99.99....so the deal seems pretty solid. thanks

Dylan, you may get more feedback if you try the Bass forum. They know their gear but you may also be sent a million directions.

I wouldn't think twice about the prodigy at that price being a poor value. I am sure it will perform well and I've heard Cabelas will stand behind their own product.

Bought one this summer and found it to be really nice. I got it for deep crankbaits and the rod is much lighter compared to the one I had. Easy to hold onto without wearing arms out. I cold feel the crankbait whole time so the sensitivity is good. Like others have said you can't go wrong with the price. Reminder to save your receipt and information tag on the rod. If you have any problems with rod you will have less hassle when you bring it in for exchange/refund.

The Cabelas reels are generally re-branded reels from your bigger manufactures. For instance the spinning reels are Daiwa, and I think the Baitcasting reel is an Abu Garcia. Find the comparable "name brand" model and look at those reviews too.

I think theyre a great deal for the money.
