Low Oil Light

I bought a used 2002 Polaris Trail Touring 550 Sport yesterday with 1500 miles on it. I took the wife on a trail ride down to Nisswa and put on about 40 miles today. 1/2 way on the trip, the low oil light came on but the oil resivoir is almost full and it ran great. Is this common and what could it mean?

I have about the same sled but it's a 2000. The oil lights do come on even with a pretty good amount of oil in the tank. But, since it is new for you and you may not know what the other guy had in it. You may want to drain it out and refill with some new stuff all the way to the top and change the little oil filter then go for another ride. If it goes on again you may want to bring it in to the dealer and have the oil sensor looked at. Good luck their great trail sleds.

Bad oil sensor, had one go in my 01 550. Pain in the [PoorWordUsage] to get at but thats your problem.
