I vaguely remember him saying he remotely runs an app, not just sharing files.

If that is the case, then you won't be able to do it with other people using the desktop while you are controlling that app, unless you have one of the Windows Server versions running. Windows XP, Vista, and 7 only allow 1 user logged in interactive user at a time.

Right. I run my own business, and the wife flat out refuses to do my book work. I use the logmein app on the Droid as well.

Right now, that's essentially the only thing the desktop downstairs is doing, is running my books, and as 95% of the households, the room it's in has turned into a "where do I put this... who knows, put it in the office room".

Anymore, the computer is almost impossible to get to anyways.

Now I've wired the PS3 directly to the Belkin router, but nothing I don't see any marked improvement over running it wireless.

The main thoughts behind moving a new desktop tower to the entertainment center, since the modem and router are now wired to this same area, I can hard wire the tower and run Netflix, Hulu, etc., while running an HDMI to the TV.

I'll become tech savvy yet.

Well, I went and got the new desktop last night. A Dell sx8100-2777nbc. Complete overkill for what I'm doing now, but since I had the last one for almost 10 years, I figured no sense in buying something that's becoming obsolete right now.

I had to tear down the cabinet that everything's in. I was hoping that I could squeeze it into one of the side areas, but I didn't realize those shelves are fix mounted, guess I should look closer.

I'm typing now with a 46" monitor. grin I'm waiting for another HDMI cable to show from Monoprice, until then I have to keep moving it from the PS3 to the desktop.

It'll be a day of getting email reset, installing the new version of Quickbooks and moving those files from my old desktop.

You mean you aren't going to get the $150 Monster HDMI Cable from Best Buy? It will have a much better picture, just ask the salesman...

Monoprice is a great place to get cables for anything. I have always had great luck with them and they are dirt cheap.

Heck even the $20 Walmart HDMI cables are the same thing as the $80 Big Box HDMI cables if you gotta have one tonight.

spearchucker brought this up last year/awhile ago and since then I have picked up cables for $5-$8 on Newegg when I order up some hardware. Thanks for that tip SC.

Thats not a bad price, but look at Monoprice and you will be amazed at how cheap they are. The stuff is just as good or better quality than other places. A digital cable is either going to work or not, there isn't much in between.

That part about working or not isn't strictly true, but a fair approximation. (I used to do that kind of stuff)

Thanks for the pointer.

It is somewhat of an approximation, but with a digital bitstream like HDMI either the picture will not appear or be severely pixalated. You will not know the difference between a working $3 HDMI cable and a $150 one.

Analog A/V cables and stuff are a little more noticeable since there is no digital correction mechanisms or anything.

Yeah, PCI-express and Infiniband cables can get a little picky but mostly the throughput drops off until things just don't work anymore.

There is a great deal of bovine excrement slung about cables of all types. We used to laugh over some of the ads for stuff like speaker wire.
