Boat Trailer Cost Question

My fiancee and I just bought a house down in Lakeville. It only has one flaw - the garage is only 19 1/2 feet deep so my boat and trailer probably won't fit in there. It's in storage so I can't be sure but the boat is 17 feet + 2 or so feet of outboard + trailer tongue.

I'm hoping it may fit if I buy a trailer with a tongue that folds back. I can't be sure of course until I go measure.

In any case...what do these cost? And do the places that sell them generally take trailers on trade in?

I thought at one time I saw where Cabela's sold a swing tongue kit. Either that or a guy with some welding knowledge should be able to make a hinge. Just cut the tongue, weld on some plates and use a couple high grade pins. Just a thought?

I had a 17' boat that measured approx. 21' from the motor to the hitch. I had a garage that was shy of 20' long. I had to put the boat at an angle and it fit just fine.

My Garage is 22ft. deep and my 1800 ProV is on a 3100lb. Shorelander trailer that has brakes.

I had to shorten the tongue on the trailer 8 inches and re-hook the surge brake lines, etc. cost me $250.00 bucks.

It fits straight in the third stall door and the tongue actually hits the garage door once it's down but I push the entire boat and trailer back a few inches when I shut the door.

We've been house hunting this spring and almost every home we look at the garage is way too small for my Boat in the 3rd stall. I carry a tape measure on each house survey!

We're building a new home with a 9ft. wide 3rd. door and I'm making the entire garage 24ft. deep front to back.

Depending on how old the trailer is most boat dealers can order a swing tongue only for you... you won't need a whole new trailer.

I ordered a swing tounge after market and thought it ran about $100. It is well worth the money for my boat to only take up 1 stall, instead of 2 stalls parked at an angle. Make sure to measure your trailer, and measure how much length the swing arm will save you. My swing arm allowed my boat to fit in one stall, but just by a few inches. So before you buy, make sure to do the math.
