Lake Contour Maps for Smartphones

OK... So I just purchased a Motorola i1 (a droid phone) and have located this app in market and purchased it. I attempted to install the app into the phone... with no avail. All attempts have resulted in an "download unsuccessful". Has this happened to anyone else and they've been able to fix the issue?

I assuming it me because I'm new to this SmartPhone thing. Who would have thought that you actually have to be smart to work one of these fandangled smart do-jiggers! Therefore, I am once again calling upon my FM friends who have proven to be more than tech savvy to if not help me than to point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,

SMH!!!!! confused

1st of all did you download over a WiFi connection? If it took hours to download then you probably didn't.

If you did and are still having an issue, I would try to delete the app and try again.

Before you try that though, you might want to try doing a "battery pull". Basically that is pulling the battery out when the phone is on adn putting it back in and turning the power on. This does a "soft" reset or like a reboot. This can makes things that don't work suddenly function like magic.

The more details you can provide as to what you did or didn't do can help us help you.

FYI, you can delete and reinstall Droid apps over and over again, just go back to the marketplace and reinstall.

Like Dtro said a wifi connection is a must if you don't have a wireless router at home find a starbucks or some such place that does and turn on wifi on your phone then make sure you are connected to it and try the download again. Another thing is when you get it loaded make sure you turn your wifi off and to exit the program correctly use the back arrow on the phone. I guess the smart in smart phone means more that the phone has to be smart. My only issues were not turning off the passworded wifi connection causing the app to crash when starting and exiting using the home button causing a yellow screen on next use. I have it on my Droid X and it is pretty sweet for 13.00.

Just downloaded this app on my lg ally and the map only comes up for a few seconds and shuts off. I emailed navionics but havent got it figured out yet. Has anyone ran into this problem?

The same thing happened on my DroidX when I downloaded it. I shut off my phone, turned it back on, and the app worked fine. Might have taken the battery out too...confused

When I reloaded my copy last week I ran into a similar issue, that based on the reviews others are having. Anyway... once it launched and you could see the map of the us I hit the zoom in button a bunch of times, and it's worked fine ever since.

I just downloaded the app yesterday. The app itself is 8MB but the charts download separately on your SD card and is around 1.5 gigabytes. So make sure you have a large enough SD card. Also wi-fi is very helpful as others said. But if you have 3G or 4G that will work just as well.....i downloaded my charts in 20 mins over a 3G connection. This app works GREAT though. Just as good as buy a 200$ lake finder GPS. I see people selling their GPS because they have downloaded this app. That shows how well the app works. Cant wait to actually use it on the lake tomorrow.

I was debating downloading this. Reading the reviews on the app market there is a lot of negative ones. Anyone still having issues? is it worth the 13 dollars yet? I do not have much use for it, but heck for 13 dollars who cares right? Typically I fish on mille lacs and the boat I use is equipped with gps and lake maps.

to download or not to download?

Well, you can trust the apps reviews, or people you know. wink

A big part of our success this past Saturday was do in part to this app. We used all day finding the edges of the mud flats on ML. Not once yet have I second guessed my decision to sell my H20.

I wouldn't waste my time with this app if I were you. I made the mistake of purchasing it for my Motorola Droid and haven't had it work yet.

For starters it comes w/ a 15min $ back guarantee, but it takes all about 15 mins to install w/ wifi. 2nd: everytime I golto open it up it crashes or I need to "force close" the program. Navionics is aware of the problems but have failed to come up w/ a fix.

I asked for a refund but they say that's an Android Market issue, talked to Anroid Market and they state that's a Navionics issue ( all by email's, no person to person).

3rd: if you are able to download it and have it work, you better disable your position locator, If you mark a waypoint and put any kind of info with it IE:" Big walleyes", "marked a lot of fish" or what ever it will show up globally to all since it's a shared community users app.

I bought it and now it sits useless on my phone waiting for Navionics to provide a patch.

That's simply just not true osok, about the community spots. You don't have to "disable" anything. When you mark a spot you have 2 options. You can mark a "favorite" or you can mark an "object". When you mark a favorite it is stored locally on your phone just like waypoint on a GPS, nobody sees it. When you mark an object, it will warn you that you are marking a "community" spot.

This feature is a very nice one. Say I want to mark a dangerous rocky area, or a location of a permanent house for my frinds. 1,2,3 I just shared it with everyone.

Not sure why you are having issues with installing it. I would suggest downloading Astro File Manager and removing anything to do with Navionics and then reinstall. A guy I fish with all the time has a Droid and I have a DroidX, we use the app constantly. I will say that a couple of times he has had the "yellow" screen bug. But I think he just closed it out and restarted.

Now if I paid $100 like an actual GPS chip, I might not be so high on the app, but for the price of a lunch or two, I have a very good tool and one that (for me) has performed better than the $300 I had into my H20.

I'm not saying that anyone in particular is doing this but it sure wouldn't surprise me if some negativity isn't coming from the competition. wink

are you running a 1.6 version or greater on your operating system? maybe you need a droid update not a navionics one?

I cant even purchase it. I think the bank thinks its someone trying to use my card because its from Italy.

It wasn't blocked for me, but I DID get a call from my bank verifying the purchase because it was through Google via Euros. I'm sure there is a way you can get your bank to let it through Nick.

That's all I needed to know. I am glad the bank didn't let it go through, however I am not happy they didn't give me a call? Kinda defeats the purpose of stopping a payment if you don't let me know!

Thanks D! smile

    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
    • I went ahead and watched some of the MLF coverage.  Wheeler didn’t make the cut but the bigger story was the Poche/Avera fallout.   Kinda funny listening to both sides of the story and putting together the scenario, reading between the lines.
