Sewing a patch on my portable

fishinfey8

Question

Last year I scortched the side of my portable with the sunflower heater. Luckily, I caught it before to did too much damage. It only burned about a 2 or 3 in. long by 1/2 in wide hole, but I don't know how to sew, or if it is possible to even hand-sew a patch on thicker canvas. I have the Eskimo quickfish hub. Anybody know of anyone that can patch it up? I would like it to be done professionaly/correctly so I don't have to mess with it again. Thanks.

I don't know of any places, but you should be able to find someone that repairs tents, makes boat covers, or does other canvas work, and they should be able to take of it for you. Canvas Craft is one place that comes to mind. And years ago I had a zipper added to one of my portables, I don't rememeber who did it but I think it was a tent place somewhere near the U of M. Good luck.

I would pick up some "Tear Mender" and use that to glue on a patch. I found it at fleet farm where they sell tarps. I have glued many things with this and never had one issue. The best example is a 18" tear down the side of my snowmobile cover. Overlapped about an inch and glued it. It's held up to 2 years of road travel at 70mph and still hasn't let loose. Good stuff and stays pretty flexible.
