Sportsmans pantry

Recommended Posts

I was thinking earlier this year while sitting on my stand that there have been an awful lot of folks affected by this economy. I know there are venison donation programs and I would urge you all to take advantage of these programs to help out others in need. I presented this to my church and am looking at starting a "Sportsmans pantry" at our church as a way to help out some of the folks within our church that need a hand making their grocery dollar go further. What I proposed to our church is that if each hunter that has some success in the field would donate 2-3#'s of ground venison the pastoral staff could give out this food to those that have fallen on hard times. Conservatively, I would expect somewhere between 100-200#s of ground venison to be brought in. I got to thinking and I know there are alot of people that hunt waterfowl and upland game as well as fish, so with a little encouragement I think this is something we may be able to keep going year round to assist people that we see in church each Sunday. I know that there are needs all over the state and would encourage anyone that knows of people that have needs, to share in the harvest as you see fit. This is just a small idea to help out others that I thought I'd share. Happy hunting!
