Tag Question

Recommended Posts

So we are party hunting with a number of tags.

We get two does Saturday morning, site tag them and make plans to have them picked up to go to the butcher saturday night with the warm temps.

We use the telephone regristation process and get a confirmation number to put on our lic/reg tag, place that on the deer and the deer leave.

What do we have that says we have a lic to firearm hunt with?

I'm not certain, but I don't think you are supposed to leave the other portion of your license with the deer when you drop it off for processing. I think you retain that part, with the confirmation number recorded and use that as your license. The confirmation number will show a Conservation Officer that you indeed have a license, but have already used your tag which means you need to have someone in the field with you to hunt..

I'm not 100% sure on this, but that is how I understand it

Your site tag should have been removed from your license. There is a perforated line. Only your tag should be on the deer not the license too. The confimation # would be on your license but you can still party hunt. You may need to go back to get your license or get a duplicate from an agent and explain your situation.

It is pretty obvious that you need to have something on your person to go out and party hunt if you only have the one tag and have filled it. But why then does the license state on it license/registration slip? It sure makes one think that the "registration slip" should stay with the deer. There has always been a tag of some type to leave on the deer after registration. I think that this is something the DNR did not think through very well. That would not be the first time.

Yes I read page 64. And I know what is required as far as tagging goes. If there had been just a few words additional about the lack of a requirement to attach a registration tag to the deer would have made it much clearer and saved a lot of phone calls for a lot of people.

I think I am there, thanks for all the help.

I am not 100% feeling the online and telephone regristation is the best for MN. A lot of things can be hidden from the view of the DNR now even more then before. Time will tell on this one.....

Again, thanks for the help on this one!!!!
