CRP Question

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone could answer this question for me. I hunt land that is enrolled in the CRP program. I have heard from a few people that the land is then open to the public for hunting. We have a big problem with trespassers, and before I approach them and ask them to leave I want to make sure that they dont have the right to be on our property. I should add that this land is in Wisconsin, not sure if the law is different over here. Any information is appreciated.

In some states you can enroll in a specific type of CRP that allows public hunting, but it's a voluntary thing, and a landowner should know if they are in that type of program. It doesn't appear Wisconsin has it yet, but there are plans in the works to establish it.

Here's an example of one such public hunting CRP already in place.

Here's a recent Outdoor News article with more information on what Wisconsin's and Minnesota's plans are.

And here's the official federal gov site about the program.

The answer is NO. There is no active program whereby you sign up for CRP and the public gets any access to your land.

There are a few programs where you can open your land to public hunting. But I don't think Wisconsin has such a program they are recent inventions and land enrolled in these programs is definitely signed as open for hunting by the sponsoring organization or agency.

Programs like this are often targeted at land in CRP.

Thanks for the info guys! last year we had three members of our camp walk out in the morning, well before light, only to find that people were alreay sitting in their stands. When they asked they to leave they replied, "we dont speak english". Very frustrating since they crossed a fence that was heavily post with no trespassing signs.
