Smooth bore vs rifled shotgun barrels

Recommended Posts

That much more accurate yes absoulutly! With the newer slugs like Barnes, Hornady etc... It has made a slug gun into a 200 yd gun. If I was buying a new slug gun or barrel with out a doubt I would go rifled. With that being said. If you have a smooth bore with a scope I would not hesitate taking a shot out to 100 yds if you have sighted it in properly. Most shots are 50 or less and any dear is dead at that range with the most basic setup. Even the cheap Rifled Slugs have come a long way in recent years.

Good point. I use the fiber optic sites on my smooth bore.

A rifled barrel is always going to give you more range and accuracy at longer distances over a smooth barrel.

But your right in thinking that todays slugs are amazing compared to years ago.

I wouldnt hesitate to take a shot out to 100 yards with a smooth barrel as long as you have done it at the range in advance.

I have seen a guy use a cheapo remington with a smooth barrel and hit a clay pigeon on the side of a hill at 110 yards. OPEN SIGHTS !! took him two shots and he barely missed the first one. Cost me a case a beer !

Good example of practice and knowing your weapon. smile
