Big Buddy-Mr Heater

not_nuf_time

Question

I'm thinking of buying a new heater for potable fishouse and deer stand. What do you guys think of the big buddy, and are there any things I need to use with the 20Lb tank? Meaning, are the long hoses better or do I need the regulator or fuel filter with this? $37.00 seems like alot for a hose. Thanks.

The initial problems with the BB heaters have been taken care of. Before that recall , the filter was suggested as a not so good attempt to remedy that problem. I'm sure they might still recommend the filter but there are a lot of Buddy heaters running fine without the filter.

IMO it is a good heater but not for good for outdoor use if there is any chance of wind.

None of those type heaters with a polite light will work in wind.

I have tried, I think its 5 now, buddy heaters. Every single one no matter brand or size was junk! Wouldnt light or stay lit, ceramic would break and heat wasnt the best without the fan wich ate batteries up.

I now use a MR. Heater cooker and put the tank outside and connect with a 6' hose. Great heat and you can cook on it if needed. Downfall is the stand is light weight so take care of it and make sure you keep the door/windows open a crack. You want fesh air moving around when using them. Oh and of course keep it away from your house or you will have a melted smiley face.

Like Steve said, the cookers are more reliable and take a bit more abuse.

They also weight less, less bulk, and less then half the price of a BB.

Downside of a cooker over the BB. They are noisy, less low temp heat control, and are more apt to burn something. (Door flaps/zippers and pant legs smile )

For sure get the 20 lb tank outside the house. Since you don't have the cooker use an old steel milk crate to hold/house your tank top heater.
