Virus protection

Recommended Posts

AVG's free edition has always done me good. Never caught a virus yet. But, I have started using Avast since reading about Jim having Gordie use it. Just the occurrence though, because others use in here it and have had good reviews.

I am running avast right now along with Windowes 7 firewall. I never open unknown files from my e-mails and never go on unknown WIFI hotspots anymore, but I am downloading and removing software from my PC daily so I am always digging and monitoring [PoorWordUsage] programs and garage running and research via google anything I do not know or is not owned my the manu of my PC or MS. Plus I run Kaspersky on my home server, so I am pretty comfortable, but it never hurts to throw in a free firewall on top of the AVG or Avast. ZoneAlarm, Onlinearmor, Agnitum Outpost. Search "cnet" then go to downloads and download from them. They are the cleanest place to download from and you can search for free and trial ware. Always take the time to search "popular" then "user rating" to weed out programs with only one 5 star review and read the consumer reviews on what is going on. wink

I have Avast on the laptop and AVG on my desktop and they both seem to do a good job but like Shack I am careful about what I open up. The anti-spyware that I like is SuperAntiSpyware. It is free and seems to do a pretty good job of finding "Junk" that your computer picks up. Once you download the software you will want to make sure it updates to the latest version and then do a quick scan of C: drive and if you have any partitions you should scan then as as well. It will then get rid of the junk. It will find a lot of ad-ware type stuff but the junk you really want to eliminate is the Trojans.

AVG is free, Seems to be pretty good. all my work computers have them on it, and they have no problem. However, usually virus's are spread through emails, and clicking on links you shouldn't be.

Spyware - I have always liked spybot search and destroy, malwarebytes, and adaware.

I usually install and use all three because one or the other always misses something.

Also, to expand on upnorth's comments. Use sites that you trust to download any free software. There are many out there that desguise themselves as others to lure you in. If you don't know of any, do your research first.

I like to download software from just a few locations. Mostly CNET,Filehippo and MajorGeeks.

I went with the AVG and the SuperAntiSpyware.

Hopa all goes well.

I have to do my laptop as that also will run out soon.

Nothing like saving $100 for the 2. Looks like my wife will have a fun evening Friday night.

Thanks a ton for the help.

You guys are so helpful.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
