foulpole18
I have a 2004 115hp Mercury Optimax and I was wondering what the specs are for torqueing the plugs. Boy do they get a pretty penny for those plugs.
chris63
Just tighten up snug,no need to crank down on them super tight.c63
foulpole18
That's what I always do but I wanted to see if Mercury had a spec about it. My dad thinks it needs to be torqued and I always just snug them up. Thanks
delcecchi
Service manual says 20 ft lb."Before reinstalling spark plugs, clean away dirt on the spark plug seats. Install plugsfinger tight, and tighten 1/4 turn or torque to 27 Nm (20 lb. ft.)."This was for up to 02 models.
foulpole18
Thanks Del. That seems to be inline with what I saw when I searched online to. Thought I would check here to see if anyone had any different info.
delcecchi
You are welcome. That CD of service manuals was worth the 8.95 it cost.
foulpole18
Do you happen to remember where you got it? Is it just a mercury cd?
delcecchi
bought off a large auction site. typed in mercury service manual or something like that. the Rochester public library has a number of third party service manuals, you might have luck at your library.
