Cannon River Brown

Scudly

Recommended Posts

Thats Awesome Scud, I have been fishing there for 13 years and never gotten one, never fished for them, but still. Looks like the water has gone down a little from last week when I threw a couple times. I thought Trout season was over, but i also am new to fishing trout so i may not know. Where abouts were you at in the river, I usually stay close to cannon falls and the dam and have not strayed far past the dam and the bridges. Always like hearing about new places in the cannon!!! And Gorgeous Brown

Joseph I caught this one August 4 during trout season. Took a break from the boards. Now that trout season is over I have more time to share previous photos and stories.

This one was caught downstream of Cannon Falls. Actually caught half dozen trout here all really chunky in the 14-16" range, then this one hit.

Same pool I have caught walleye, sauger, northern, carp, sheephead, scukers galore, smallies, you name it, it's in here.

Scudly, I fish the cannon all the time!!! You have to fill me in on these pools you are talking about, I would Absolutly love to catch a brown out of the Cannon river, let alone have fun with all the other fish i usually catch, Is there any inside info u can give me, besides downstream that would be helpful in my hunt for trout in the cannon next season? My email address is [email protected] incase you don not want to post the info on here, Thanks again

Cannon River Map

This is a helpful map. Most canoe out of Cannon Falls or Welch. I have yet to try Northfield however on my list.

What I love about the Cannon is you never know what you will catch. Out of this same spot aside from trout I have caught walleye, sauger, northern, smallmouth bass, giant carp, giant white sucker, sheephead.

Very Nice fish Scud. Still have no idea with the map you gave me where to catch my first trout out of the cannon. But i got some time to get ready for next season!

Yeah concentration on the mouth of the trout streams. Cold clean water and big water produces chunky fish. Best of both worlds. Big warm water with a ton of baitfish to chew. Ice cold oxygenated water from the trout stream. When Cannon is high and dirty imagine the trout migrate tight to where the two join. Bait from the trout stream also washes down for the trout to eat and survive harsh conditions. The trout streams are obviously going to clear out much faster than main Cannon. Little Cannon, Pine Creek, Trout Brook, Belle. All of these are good choices.

Got out yesterday for some walleye action on the cannon, been hearing a lot of rumors bout the action so i had to try it out. I tryed many places including where the little and bigg cannon meet, no luck and am still wondering how there are trout in this intersection the little cannon looks to be empty below the falls so how r the trout getting into the cannon river?

Plenty of people me included have caught trout on the lower end of the Little Cannon. I have even caught them at the falls which has two steps and trout on both steps. Trout don't need much water. I guarantee you trout can be caught at the intersection of Little Cannon, Pine, and Trout Brook.

As JBMasterAngler about this. Some swear fishing Little Cannon at park have caught some nice browns and big holdover rainbows. At 19 and Cannon downstream of the bridge people fish for walleye there. I have also caught sauger at the mouth of Trout Brook from the south side. Very deep pool. Best approach is 1/2 oz Lindy rig with a worm set about 2+ feet up.

Yah thanks guys. just got back out again yesterday and got some nice walleye. but as far a trout goes, i will just have to do some research and take some advice and use it next year. Thanks again guys!

Joseph just so you know one cannot legally target trout out of season, even if it is non-designated. No worries. I'd take a walleye over a trout any day. May I ask where you got the walleye? The bite was pretty good two weeks a go before the storm in Hastings dam, mostly sauger. I caught some sheephead too.

When I used to fish that area this past summer, all I used to catch were small brooks. Nothing worth keeping.

Assume you are talking about Trout Brook? Yeah I talked to Lake City DNR and they said electroshock there were too many to count. That stream could use some harvest of smaller brookies. Anybody want a meal of small brookies, have at it.

One of the bigger ones at Trout brook.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
