Ithaca M37 Featherlight vs....

Recommended Posts

Looking at buying a new 12 guage and saw the new Ithaca M37 Featherlight and it got my attention. Does anyone shoot these? Are they good for duck and pheasant? How do they compare against the 870 express, wingmaster, browning BPS? I've heard they are vairy reliable but I'm affraid there in the same class as an express (I already own the 870 express) or should I get a more "expensive" gun such as a browning or benelli?

I own a Ithaca M37 in 20 gauge. Have had it for close to 25 years. I also own or have owned a Remington 870, a Browning BPS and a Mossberg 500. The Ithaca is hands down the nicest and best built of those guns.

I don't think there is any comparison between the M37 and a 870 Express. The Ithaca is a superior, nicer and overall a better gun. Also keep in mind that the Ithaca costs quite a bit more than an 870 Express. Obviously Remington sells a ton of 870 Expresses and they have proven to be a very solid gun.

I have read articles that claim that the Ithaca is the best pump shotgun ever made. I don't know if I would go that far. It is however a very nice gun.

I have always admired these guns. The new ones manufactured today are getting great reviews. The old ones (same design) that I have shot are smooth and light. As already metioned, the Ithica is heads and shoulders above the 870.
