Do a search on here for them, should be a lot of info. Remember reading posts on them.

I have one and like it. The battery won't last the 8 hrs in the cold. I mount it in the boat, car, and truck.

They do accept lakemaster chips, but- it has to be "Garmin lake master" and is a micro SD card not a SD card. I believe there is a garmin lakemaster CD, that you can put on your computer and download to the unit. If i had to do it over again this is what i would do. you can mark spots on a lake you haven't been to at home. and back up your way points.

They are waterproof but they don't float.

I have taken a few friends fishing this yr and they make fun of me for the garmin in the boat- till they see it in action.

The Nuvi 500 is a great GPS, personally I don't have one but I have worked with them before and I do own a Nuvi 250 that has some of the same features of the 500 but is not designed for outdoor use like the 500 is.

If you get the Lakemaster chip, you will get the MicroSD card and the SD adapter with your purchase.

Got one...love it, it pulls a lot of crossover GPS duty for me...car, boat, and occasionally trail.

I run LM/Garmin cards, NDTRAX & MNTRAX in it...will be running it on and powering it from my Vexilar FL-22HD out on the ice this winter.

Should make a nice tight package..Don't Ja Think....Eh. smile

I have the NUVI 500 and I love it also. I got the Lakemaster CD so I can mark spots on the computer and save them. I bought a cradle for it and it holds the Garmin very secure in the boat and on the 4 wheeler. It has been in the rain a few times this year and no problems so far. I would recommend the unit.

Another thing worth mentioning about the Nuvi 500/550 line.

If you go North of the Border, then the 550 version is the one to get. (compare both available models and see what is best for you.)

Then...you have Canada roads, and once you register your new Nuvi 500..you then can update the US base map for 2010/2011 for free in the first 30 days.

After registration, you will also get a code good for a discount on Garmin accessories...it can be applied to mapping too..registration saves you some $$$ right off the bat.

There is many lasting benefits to registration of your Garmin products, I recommend you do so.
