Fish id help please

My son caught this fish last spring at the Coon Rapids Dam on the Mississippi. We always thought its unusual coloration was that of a juvenile northern. But a friend saw this picture yesterday and insists it's a tiger muskie.

Anyone know for sure?

I looked through all my pics. of pike and a few things stick out about this fish. All the photos I have The spots never make bars like they do on this fish. I also noticed that on all my pics of pike the spots on the fins are the same light green as the spots on the rest of the pike and on this one the spots on the tail and fins are black like that of a young muskie.after looking at about 2 dozen photos of pike and about a 1/2 dozen pics of tigers. I have to go with tiger. because of the black spots on the fins.If it is a pike I did not see another pic quite like this one not that there is not another pic of a pike like this just I did not see it today

I would say Tiger and I hope a gentile one. Not trying to be too critical here but I'd rather see the boy holding the line and not the lure for this pic. Crankbait trebles could have be nasty if that fish started thrashing. Again don't let my opinion take away from the outing just next time maybe take the pic differently.

Hiya -

It's a pike I think. Pike have a lot of variation in their color patterns, especially as juveniles. In some lakes you get tons of fish with bars like this where the spots are connected. I know a couple lakes that have fish with patterns like this all over the place.

Either way it's a cute little bugger. Cool looking fish.

Cheers,
