mskyfshntchr
Recently replaced the driveway at my house. Had to redo the edges of the driveway when they were finished. About 2' each side of the driveway has new seeding as well as some other areas in the yard that needed it. It is on a fairly steep slope and we had a rain 2 days after I seeded and it created a few gullies in the dirt- washing away the dirt and seed. It is all reseeded and there is starting to be grass growing in some spots. We are supposed to get an inch or so of rain tomorrow--is there anything I can cover the ground with to keep it from washing out again? Thanks! Tom7227
I bought a mat material from the feed store that had a real fine mesh to it and shreded wood woven into a decent mat. That's the only way that I've had luck in a similar circumstance. I think it was about 4 feet wide and I don't know if it is sold in narrower widths. Pretty easy to put down with some metal staples that are maybe 5 inches long by 1 inch wide.Only other choice is to spread straw. I'm not sure that would work given the runoff from the drive and the steep slope at your place.
mskyfshntchr
Did the grass grow through it and you just left it there? Yesterday, some of my grass started to grow--some is over an inch. Funny thing, yesterday morning- there was no grass, so it grew quickly! Thanks for the help! Tom7227
yes the grass grows up through the stuff. When it got long enough I cut it and eventually the wood thatch stuff and the plastic mesh disappeared. The staples were in below the level of the mower so they weren't a problem either.
