Remington 770 Pro's and Con's

Recommended Posts

My dad is looking at buying a rifle but never owned one before and neither have I. I found an add that has them for $299 with a scope. They have .243, 30-06, and 270's. Now I understand the scope will probally not be worth a darn but what is the gun like. He MIGHT hunt some deer with it but he just is looking as getting one for popping targets or yotes if he sees them. Just want anyones opinion on them, good/bad/or indifferent!

Thanks,

Froggy

Personally i would not waste my money on one. I would save a little more cash and buy a 700 if you want a rem. Otherwise look at maybe a savage if you want to stay on the budget side. I have seen too many 770's that have had bolt issues. This is a very cheaply made gun. Nothing about it is Rem but the name.

i agree with the others, stay away from the 770, in my opinion remington should be ashamed to put there name on this rifle, it was supposed to be there idea of an entry level bolt rifle, they failed miserably, i also agree with the posts regarding savage rifles, the model 111 is a nice rifle and you can get a scoped combo for around 350.00, most calibers as well, i bought my son one of these last summer and it shoots real nice, smooth bolt, scope is a cheaper version but more than adaquate, plus it came with rings and mounting rail so upgrading in the future will be easier, it also has a removeable clip which i liked for my boy, less fumbling around for him.

and like picks said the accuttrigger is nice, (the model 111 doesnt have it) they are not on the entry level rifles, so those guns are more money.

just my 2cents,

mike.
