Wisconsin Small Stream Trout Season

Driftless

Recommended Posts

The last month of season is always my favorite. The male browns are getting the spawning itch and traveling upstream and are opportunists when it comes to getting their meals. This make them more vulnerable to being caught. September is big ugly male brown month!

The brookies get that same itch and the big males are easier to catch also.

early morning only for the big browns.

thick weeds make night time fishing almost impossible this time of year.

I had a very small brown on this morning and an ENORMOUS male brown lumbered

out from under a bank directly in front of me and accessed the thrashing midget and

slowly turned and went back under the bank. This was about 6:45am.

I held still for 5 minutes and slowly backed up and thought to myself if I had anything it might like.

I threw the kitchen sink at the big boy with no luck. If I had a big hopper along I think I could have gotten it.

Those are so ugly I'd love to have them stuffed and hung on my wall laugh

What did you use to bag those, baitwise, hookwise? I'm a newbie to fishing period, and I would like my visits to trout streams to start paying off.

Went to Trimbelle Recreation Area today for a no score (10am-2pm, didn't even spot one and I spent most of my time just staring at water shocked )

nice, yeah size 10 is what i use. most of what i tryed were daichi and they were called "bleeding bait hooks" because they have 2 little barbs meant to look like drops of blood on the back. got some normal size 10 hooks too, mustad brand.
