How many lakes??

merc

Recommended Posts

I was bored the other day and needed a day off from fishing/golfing (unemployed), so I started adding up the lakes I have fished in my lifetime. This was easy as almost my entire life I have written down the lake, date, people along and amount of fish caught in a book. I came up with 132 lakes fished. Does anyone else have any idea how many they have fished or am I the only crazy person who keeps track?? Just curious!!! Good luck fishing!!

When is the ice coming???

Youre not the only one. I started a log book for hunting/fishing in March of 1993. I recently had to start a new one, because the 3 ring binder was stuffed to the gills. (No pun intended)
It is a great tool, when you are arguing with a buddy, about who caught more fish that one time back 3 years ago. I grab the book, and bingo, the data is right there.
I have never thought about how many lakes I have fished, but I will have to check it out.
My 6 year old son has started his own log book. He will be happy he did when he gets older. Its fun to look back on who, what, when, where, etc...

I need to get a log book. I try to use my short term memory loss brain and think back. Yep, kinda fuzzy. smile.gif

No idea how many lakes. Got to be close to 60 or so.

Hey Merc,
I guess we are the only geek fish guys keeping track. smile.gif

Seriously though, I would highly recommend to people to take 15 minutes out of an evening and throw down some highlights. You would be amazed at the data that you can use for future outings.

I've always thought about starting a logbook, but never got 'round to it', after listening to you guys I added a note book to my 'to get' list. Maybe I'll just keep it on the seat of my truck and write in at the end of the day. What info besides weather, location, results do you keep?

Date Lake name Time fished
Skies
Wind
Surface temp
Air temp

After that, any highlights that happen. The number and species of fish, what worked and what didnt, etc...
If other highlights occur, I put them down too. For example, Last year on the way home from Vermillion, we watched a deer get hit by a minivan, the deer flew all the way over the ditch, and landed in the woods, got up and hobbled off. Not something you see every day.

I started to keep a log book for bout 2 years now. I started when i was 14.

I write down everything.
Date, time fished, Barometer, Water temp, Water Clarity, Overcast, air temp, wind mph and direction, structure and deepth, location i fished, lures used, how many fish caught, extra notes.

I can tell this is paying off already.

I started a spreadsheet log 2 years ago.
I record, date, lake/river, time of day, total hours, size/species, baits used, if anyone alse with me caught anything, number of fish kept. Also # of hours using the vexilar.
It is kind of nice to see how many fish I've caught in a given year.
This year i've only been on 16 bodies of water so far.

Wow, you guys are out of my league when it comes to your log books. I just do the basics, lake, date, who was along and how many and what kind of fish caught. It's amazing though, I can look back 25 years ago and remember that day of fishing, but I can't remember where I just layed the dang remote down five minutes ago. Oh well I'll just keep watching the sam channel!!

Hey Biglakeba$$,

It's funny, I never remember where I set the remote but I always remember where I set my beer down. Speaking of that, I gotta go!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
