Trails up by Alexandria

Neighbor has a cabin on a small lake next to Lake Mary and I was thinking about spending a weekend up there this winter. Are they many good trails west of alexandria?

In laws have a cabin near Ashby and I love riding up there. "CLICK HERE" for trail info. The "Central Lakes Trail" the blue trail on the map is an old railraod grade that goes to Fergusfalls to the NW and as far as Melrose and further to the SE.

I think the trails are decent around alex, but it really depends on the snow conditions. The downside is the heavy use they get. I stay away from the Carlos state park/arrowood resort areas because they are heavily used and always rutted out unless your right behind a goomer. The central lakes trail is the most booring trail in the entire state. It is very straight and you feel like your going only going 30 mph at 55. I've been checked by the DNR nearly every time i've been on it, and also studs are prohibited because it's a paved multi-use trail. The trails running north of parker's prairie or that run west toward the battle lakes area are a blast. I also like running east of alexandria towards long prairie, but the trails are not marked well in once you get into todd county. Once you get 15-20 miles outside of alex in any direction, the riding is great.
