Lowrance power

propster

Question

Our 5 yr old LMS332c goes on the blink now and then out on the water. Either powers off without touching anything, or light level changes. Water temp is not working right now either, which leads me to believe it may be the transducer, but the powering off leads me to think it's two separate issues. The power cord is firmly locked on the back, could it be a pinched or short in a cable? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

If it were just powering off I would say something is shorting out somewhere. But with the backlight brightness changing it sounds more like a bad keypad which is pretty common with these units. Unfortunately Lowrance won't fix it because it's too old. If you're going to keep using it I recommend disconnecting the power to it when not in use. There have been many instances the units with bad keypads turn on by themselves while stored, killing the battery.

What does the power read to the unit when ON?

Also clean and check the fuse and fuse holder.

Stretch the spring on both ends of the fuse holder to increase the tension on the fuse to produce a better contact...if it is a spring type fuse holder. This is a common place where voltage may drop due to poor connection or weak pressure on the fuse.

Not sure on the LMS332c but on all my other untis that I either have had, have, or the old man has (x15mt, 110c, 112c, HDS7 and 10) we go to the satelite status page with the digital data and it will show how many volts are available from the battery. Typically around 12v (or slightly more) is the operating range. Once you dip below that I'll start having issues of the machines shutting down when I try to start my big motor.
