Factory 22-250 loads for Coyotes

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I currently have my savage sighted in with Federal 55 grain soft points. They shoot pretty well but I tend to have some vertical stringing which I think may be due to velocity differences. I am looking to switch to a middle of the road ammo that would be good for yotes. I would like to try out Hornady V-Max but I have read on other forums that people are not big fans of the V-Max bullets at 22-250 velocities because they can "splash" upon hitting the shoulder of a big yote and cause a wounded/lost animal. Does anyone have any experience with these, good or bad?

I think your soft points will work great on them. recheck your scope rings and make sure everything is tight on them first. If you are shooting 1" groups at 100 or better, you are definitely within MOC (minute of coyote). I too have the horror stories about the v-max bullet but it is all I shoot out of my 223. never had a splashing problem, but the velocity is nowhere near what you are using. Try a different soft point brand or just a general hollow point too
