Hen of the Woods?

My buddy Tom and I were brushbusting along a NE Minnesota trout stream and came across this fungi. I've heard of Hen of the Woods before, but have never seen it. Is this and example of it?

No, they don't grow on wood. They grow on the ground and in a clump.

Actually, if you find some and identify it beyond doubt, it is a wonderful mushroom. I think they're often good sized. Kind of a pain to clean up because they sort of grow around whatever's in their way like grass and leaves and junk.

Ken, you've got a bunch of Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor). Chicken of the woods is slang up here for Sulpher Shelf (Laetiporus sulphureus), which also grows on wood but is a bright sulfer color, usually larger than Turkey Tail, and without the white border.
