Diesel Fuel Storage

Recommended Posts

Diesel has a longer shelf life than gasoline. If stored properly in a good sealed container it should last a year easily. You can also treat it with stabilizer that will prolong its life somewhat, possibly up to 2 years in ideal conditions.

Keep in mind, if the fuel has already been sitting a while you need to take that into account. If it has been subject to temperature extremes or moisture the shelf life is shortened. Also if you are accessing it often and opening and closing the container it can also affect its life.

Also if you have a somewhat older truck it will burn the fuel with no issue. Only newer electronic injectors and/or trucks that require ULSD only will have problems with old fuel.

I believe you have a GM 6.5l correct ? Heck these will burn anything, in fact the Army Hummer has same engine and will run almost anything. Just add an additive/stabilizer and be sure your filters are new, to remove any water.
