mnmuzzleloader
Has anyone thought of doing this in Sept? It looks like fun, I have talked to a couple custom call makers and they have said they are one of their favorite birds to hunt. Seems to be limited information or tips on hunting them out there. I was just wondering if anyone has ever hunted them or do most people pass shoot them in other states? Also I was wondering if we would see some guides pick up some clients for this hunt this fall. Thanks!
BP2
We plan to hunt them as much as possible. Geese are there all year but cranes just add that much more excitement to the fall. We plan to decoy them using crane decoys (obviously) and calls in fields in the mornings. We are picking up a few clients who want the MN crane experience. Our goal, however, is film a couple good shows to document this historic event!
Coldwater Crappie Guy
Does anyone know where the zone is that we can hunt them in? I have been looking around on the internet and cant seen to find it. I hunt east of Parkers Prarie and want to know if that is in the zone.... Black Bear
We absolutely hammer the living crxp out of them in Saskatchewan. We concentrate on white gesse/ducks over the goose decoys in the morning and pass shoot cranes/geese in the evening. The have eyesight like a deer has a nose. Thick fencelines in flyways between feed and roost areas are the best. Please do not get to close to the roost! Undisturbed, sandhills typically fly at 25 yards. In Saskatchewan you can usually put your 5 down in minutes or even seconds if you want. We decoy hunted them once last year, five of us, it only took 3 flocks at point blanck range to put 25 sandhills on the ground. They smell a little when you clean them but the meat is very different than typical sky carp. People I have let try it ask for them again and again. Rib-eye in the sky. My favorite shell for sandhills is a 3.5" Hevi-steel B -- no longer made
