Ebes1099
When I look at the Minnesota DNR HSOforum and check some of their lands closer in to the SW Metro area (in counties like Nicollet, Sibley, LeSeur, Renville) it shows an 'N' for Dove at every land in the county. Has anyone ever tried to hunt dove there? I can't believe there's no dove in any of those lands.
LandDr
I would say if you can find a dead tree to set some decoys up in or string a line with decoys on them, you should do just fine in those WMAs. It probably won't be fast and ferious shooting but you should get some shooting and some birds. Look for areas between water holes and crop fields or even small grain fields next to these WMAs where birds will pass thru from. Still requires some scouting.Land Dr
chuckwagon
The Ney WMA in henderson used to have a good sunflower patch but for the last two years i have not seen any real crops anymore. does anyone know why they don't plant this anymore? Ebes1099
I'm looking to get out this weekend for the first time. Anyone have any advice on whether I should try Renville County first or Sibley County or maybe a little farther south like LeSeur county? troutkingmaster
I recommend trying something oher than Le Sueur. We hunted all day on opener on WMAs in Le Sueur and Rice County and only bagged 12 for 3 guys and we did better than some other people I know that were out. There are a few birds around but no big concentrations worth driving for. Who knows though, maybe the strong NW wind will blow some down today.
