01 silverado AC quit

Recommended Posts

I checked the relay & fuse in the elec box under the hood, both OK, I don't think it's low on freon, blew very cold air since new, even up to last week when it was about 500* out. I assume there is another relay or fuse to engage the clutch, but have not looked into it real deep yet.

any ideas??

thank you!!!!

The first thing you do when checking an a/c issue is hook up the gauges. Leaks can happen at any time or over time. if the system is low/empty the compressor will not engage.

The Lakeville Paramount Goodyear has A/C performance checks for $29.95 plus freon this week. Its a little ways from you but not to bad. If you interested you can click the weekly special link in my signature.

Theres a little thing on the side of the canister, wiggle it and see if the comp kicks in, mine was bad and even after telling the shop this they still claimed I was low on freon, I knew I wasn't we charged it when it started acting up ourselves. After a $190 charge for " fixing it" it didnt work in the parking lot when I picked it up. Of course after hours but they got an earfull next morning and the part I said was bad and they said was fine was replaced on their dime and been working perfect since.

I had an 95 Chevy that the air quit one day also. I asked a friend and he told me unless there was alot of noise when the cold air flow stopped it probably is not the compressor. He told me to try bypassing the high pressure switch. I just unhook the wire harness and took a paper clip and inserted one to each hole. It's been awhile so I don't remember if I put the paper clip in the wire harness or the high pressure switch. I think it was the harness because that would be bypassing the high pressure switch. When I did the compressor came on after I started the engine. Just unscrew the switch and only a very little comes out and than it seals back up. Than the new one can be installed. Good luck.

Well, its fixed, however, I feel pretty dumb. It was the belt. I had my first chance to take a good look at it last night. The compressor is way down at the bottom and herd to see, but I did figure if the belt was gone, the compressor more than likely wouldn't work. laugh Not the most pleasant to change out, tensioner is good, compressor is good, nice cold air is great!!

why did the belt go? do you have something else that is locked or locking up the wipe the belt off? i know the idler pulleyswould lock up or build a bunch of old belt wear on the pulley making it unstable for a new belt to ride on.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
