so haaad
It really depends on where you are fishing and what hatches are coming off. In general though, this time of year you can use hoppers, caddis, adams, etc on streams in SE MN and Central Wisconsin.
Nate McVey
Along with so haaad's suggestions, leach patterns are working really well right now. Throw them to the far bank and strip them back across the current.
srfishin15
alright sound good, i'll be fishing in duluth next weekend. Thanks
the rod tosser
Try contacting some of the fly shops up that way and plug them for some info.just do a Google search for Duluth MN fly shops . considering that most trout feed bellow the surface about 90% of the time nymphs ,streamers would be a good choice to start with unless there is a hatch going .Pink Squirrels. ex legs, Pheasant tail nymph,Hairs ear nymphs, brown, black, olive ,woolly buggers . Muddler minnows, thunder creak minnows ,clousersa good dry fly would be a elk hair cadis
OnAFly
I'll try to put up pics for the recipe for one my father in law in MT asks me to tie up for him. He uses this orange color for brookies in the hopper season.Hook: #10 curved shankBody: Ice chenille (orange)Wing Case: Elk Hair (light)white grizzly hackle
OnAFly
Here it is: Add a bit of cement on the wing case and head and you're good to go.
srfishin15
That is a sweet looking fly, im leaving tonight so i wouldn't really have time to attempt to tie that but if i'll try to find something like it at a fly shop... thanks! Nate McVey
When you get up there, stop into Great Lakes Fly Shop and say hi to John or Porter if they are in. They'll get you set up with what's working on the streams and rivers around Duluth. They are located on Superior St.

srfishin15
nothin. couple chubs, one brookie came completely out of the water and missed as i lifted up my fly and that was the highlight of the day. a few other missed bites but otherwise not much. Nate McVey
At least you got out there and had fun! What did the airborne brookie try to hit?
so haaad
Streamers can work well when the water is stained and higher. Try streamers like muddlers, the pass lake and smaller black nose daces.
srfishin15
It was like a really small black ant nymph with an orange butt. I don't know what it's called thats just the best way to describe it. It chased it out from under a foam puddle right next to shore. Pretty cool to see just wish I could've caught it..
