Evening/Night trolling bite

Recommended Posts

Anyone been able to predict the evening/night trolling bite according to moon phase, mood ring, wife's estrous period, or any other method?

We've had a decent evening shallow crankbait bite going in fairly clear water, but even though it's full moon they seem to slow down after it gets completely dark and the moon is up. I've had other nights when they didn't even start biting until it got completely dark, or others when they bit better 2 hours before dark. Has anyone put together a pattern on this? Any replies appreciated.

Moon rise and moon set are typically good times. It doesn't hold up every night but it's something to watch for.

Changing light conditions - clouds showing up or clouds leaving, or wind changing --- also seems to spur the bite some nights.

I have seen some real slow fishing during the full moon until it rise's pretty high in the sky and then its like you turned on the switch. We would always fish the whole week of the full moon in June and the times that the fish bite seems to vary almost every night unless the weather pattern remains very stable over a long period and then you would have great fishing from dusk until you you had enough which usually was sunrise or later.
