Also he just saw all three cubs with momma yesterday so that is huge, for all of them to live this long, good job to mom, any way these were taken in northern wisconcin, enjoy, later, mike
bogwalker
Rem300, Thanks for showing the photos. Triplets are not too uncommon. Triplets surviving is less common. The most I have seen with one female was 5. They were half again the size of these.
HooknHorns
There have been sows known to have up to five cubs which is rare. Nice pics though, thanks for sharing
remington 300
hey bog, i figured you'd reply, why do you think there so small that late?late mating session? later birth date.usually there born in mid/late january right?
bogwalker
I know I spend too much time on bear topics. The sow appears very young (measured by the bird bath). This is almost certainly her first year with cubs. The fact that she is taking them so close to human territory in broad daylight makes me wonder if she is very young and inexperienced too. She may not have a very good home range again due to her age, so good food might be hard for her to come by.
bogwalker
Several years ago I was returning from a trip to Michigan's U.P.. This was in late May. Rainy overcast day and I was dozing off (my wife was driving). Traveling through sparcely populated forest country my wife hits the brakes, makes a u-turn and tells me there are bear cubs by the road. We pull up along side as they are grazing on fresh grass on the edge of thick woods. Mom bear was nowhere in site. I open the car door and call out to the cubs to come with us. They both come trotting down into the ditch and keep coming toward us. I had no idea they would do this. I was trying to get them away from the highway. We drove ahead to keep them from getting closer to the road. 20 to 30 Minutes later we saw a bear cross the road to the cubs side about 100 yards ahead of us. The cubs disappeared into the woods. Like I said, I spend way too much time on bears.

InTheNorthwoods
I also got pics & vids of a sow and triplets on trail cam from earlier this summer (in N. MN) and thought that it was interesting to see 3 cubs with a sow. They were small enough at the time to stand on top of a salt block with all 4 legs on the block. 2 black cubs and one chocolate colored cub.
