Jerry
I don't have years of experience trout fishing in MN, but from what I have seen, the August-September action is definitely an improvement over July.
reinhard1
i can only speak of the arrowhead area. sept. until close head up north. the isabella area near finland have some of the best trout lakes unless you want to travel up to the gunflint. the water gets colder and the activity picks up. since you can not fish with live bait in designated trout lakes the nightcrawler comes into play. lindy rig with nightcrawler injected with air cant be beat. also mepps and small spoons come into play. take advantage of it. the beauty of fall colors and the wildlife plus the chance for brookies and rainbows and splake what can be better. good luck. so haaad
Newmember, do you mean for stream trout or lakes? Flyfishers get excited for August and September because the grasshoppers are big enough and make for great dry fly fishing. Otherwise, stream fishing can be more challenging because the waters warm by August, weed growth is peaking and the deer and horse flies are out in full force, too. But it's still fun to get out and definitely worth it.
the man
rivers are very low in august midges and very early morning tricos seem to be the only hatches and hoppers are out and plentiful otherwise in september tricos midges hoppers and some BWO's I like to target different species in august. One thing that is nice about august and september is it is a nice time to experiment with different presentations such as streamers wet flies it's fun. dudewheresmyboat
I don't fly, but spin fish. The bite is on no matter where you go. I fished a local western wi stream recently and it was on fire!!! I don't know what the hatches are I just put on the waders and worm it. Good luck!!
newmember
yes, i've been thinking of using worms. i usually just use spinners and raps, but will try worms next time!
